This is an historic book, written by a talented poet about the period of time of his youth, the time of the great Lumbering Industry of northern Michigan. It is a bygone time and thus becomes a journey through a history we can only enjoy through sensitive eyes such as Doug Mallach. I would compare his feelings and love of the land, woods and trees to many of the more modern writings of Wendall Berry whos best title is "The Timbered Choir". The reader must remember Mallach writes in a rythmic metric manner very popular around the beginning of the 20 century. You will learn much about the times and the people, their pains and their loves if you allow yourself to drift back in time with this book of poetry.
