Hyman's career dates back over 60 years, and in all that time with his many experiments with sounds, keyboard instruments, and music (standards as well as originals), he hasn't lost his touch for bringing the hidden nuances in classic jazz compositions to the fore or creating new possibilities from popular song. Whether considering his classical extrapolations on Fats Waller's "Ain't Misbehavin'," the spacious harmonies in "All the Things You Are," or the lovely syncopation and extrapolated harmonies and counterpoint in more contemporary tunes such as Paul McCartney's "Blackbird," the end result is arresting and gorgeously performed.
