Bibliographic information on some of the fifteen artists/photographers whose works were exhibited. The artists showcases include: Albert Chong, Fay Fairbrother, Lonnie Graham, David Keating, Fern Logan, Lynn Marshall-Linnemeier, Lorie Novak, Lorna Simpson, Clarissa Sligh, Margaret Stratton, Diane Tani, Christian Walker, Carrie Mae Weems, Pat Ward Williams, and Florence Flo Oy Wong. The National African American Museum's inaugural exhibition, Imagining Families: Images and Voices, was curated, in part, as a response to the many Americans who had contacted the Smithsonian Institution to express their interest in making a meaningful contribution to the then-planned National African American Museum. This is a visual testimonial to the 15 artists whose photographs demand that we consider familial relationships and the roles that individuals play in communities. This visual testimonial exhibition allows each viewer to step inside a community that may be different from one's own, and confront a world that can pose the same challenges for each of us.
