She was in the glory of Taranto where the Italian fleet was crippled by the Fleet Air Arm and later she was in the hell of dive-bombing attacks that sent her limping into Malta more dead than alive. H.M.S. Illustrious was the might, majesty, dominion and power of the great carrier task-forces that paved the way for victory at sea.

I thought I was getting a history--well, it's more of an oral history. It will make no sense if you don't already know the ship's history. The last fifty pages help; there are some vivid recountings of the Pacific campaign. If a relative served in the ship it's a nice memento, but don't go there looking for serious history.
