I bought this book as a gift for someone who was struggling with personal issues. In the past I had loaned her a Louise Hays' book that she found comforting. I was surprised to find that "Illuminated Prayers" was more God-based and less spiritual. Although "prayer" was in the title I had always felt that Marianne Williamson was more about one's spirituality and therefore, didn't take that word so literally. I would say this book doesn't belong so much in the "self help" section as it does in the "religion" section.

Fluff
This is indeed a beautiful book; the pages are embellished with lovely designs. However, if you want a serious prayer book, this is not it. I was hoping for real spiritual meat; what I got was mere fluff. If you're into the "warm, fuzzy feelings" genre of prayers, you'll be happy. If not, skip this one.

Beautiful Book of Prayers
This is the most beautiful book. It is beautifully illustrated with illuminated watercolors. The artwork itself is enough to uplift, but the prayers are profoundly simple yet powerful. They speak directly from the heart and spirit, and they put into words what is felt but often is difficult to express or put into words. This book has been a spiritual lifeline for me now for a number of years. It kept me afloat through a major illness, when I needed someone else's help with my prayers--I felt so weak, spiritually and physically. It was such a spiritual support to me that I have now bought copies for all my friends to keep and use. Each night before I fall asleep, I flip through this book and find a prayer that resonates with me. I never cease to find a prayer that says just what I need and or what I am feeling. And it never ceases to help me feel more connected to God. I hope you will find it helpful too. Marianne Williamson truly is a lovely, spiritually connected being!
