If you want a glimpse of what Peter Pan would be like in advanced years, take a peek inside this engaging book but someone who writes as well as he danced. Jacques D'Amboise was electric as a dancer -- the sparks that flew off him were almost palpable. But that was years ago, and instead of writing a book of "and then I danced...", he's written a life story that is so sincere, honest, full of passion and vitality, that the story could only be his.
Rather than bog down the non-balletomane with arcane dance business, he tells stories that are engaging and informative, all the while making you fall in love with his family, and most of all, him.
The only question is the title, clearly reminiscent of Nureyev's film "I am a Dancer", and yet Rudi is the only dancer of note from those years not mentioned. Curious.
