Bought this book because of the numerous comments about it in the residency program where I am currently training.
I was particulary impressed with the metaphors used by the patients in their communication, which is very close to what you hear from some of the patients in the wards.
I plan to read the book a second time.

one step at a time
Although this book may not acurately portray any one specific mental illness, the message of hope it gives to those facing dificult obstacles in life can apply to everyone. The main character learns that the real world can be just as insane as any hospital for the mentally ill and that making a rose garden life is not a realistic goal. Being sane is knowing ones strengths and weaknesses and taking things one step at a time to make the best life possible for oneself.
