I read this during nursing school, just after my Psych rotation. Very fitting for what I had just studied, but not a heavy read. Very interesting perpective. I actually gave it to my instructor after I finished it!

A bit disappointing
The story was more about Michael Greenberg than it was his daughter, which was a bit disappointing. There is very little discussion as to what actually happened to her, and what her true diagnosis was. I found it a bit boring at times, and it was dragged out. Not one of my favorites.

A moving and powerful memoir
In this book, Greenberg chronicles the events of the summer that his daughter went crazy.
At the age of 15, Sally began to behave in a strange way accosting strangers, believing that she was on a divine mission and speaking in a strangely stilted style. Greenberg no longer recognized her and was forced to bring Sally to the hospital where she was admitted to the psychiatric ward.
This is the story of Sally's breakdown from Greenberg's perspective, as he notes how it affected not only Sally but the other lives around her as well. It's a powerful story and frightening as well whether you have or have not known anyone who has undergone a similar experience.
This is a compelling and moving tale of madness, something that remains, despite all our advances in modern medicine, something of a mystery.
