A gal in Shanghi for 10 years is spoiled and acts accordingly. She has fits of temper and runs away from her home base to join a rebellion in a war torn country. She hobbles her horse to fall into the hands of the rebellion - only to find out that it is NOT what she expects at all. Nearly raped and killed - she is saved by a Shaolin master who has his own path to walk. He takes her with him when she learns too much. Completing his mission, he walks into another plot he must abide by (with this barbarian white woman) in a blackmail scheme. He is now as much a prisoner as she is. Undaunted, he is willing to learn the Tigress methods to further his education and hide his identity from people seeking him. As time goes, they learn some of the ways, only to find the lack of discipline needed for their tasks in most cases. They fall into harms way when his trackers locate his possible whereabouts. They flee to her father. Lies ensue, but their purpose is determined. They wish the ultimate enlightement of the teachings (Immortality through acts on earth that propel their spirits to Heaven through these acts). She gets close and gloms onto the teachings as her new purpose. She falls for her Shaolin and sees through with him to the final act that may cause their deaths. She is the force in this book as it is her determination and love that force him to his ultimate conclusion. Good book - recommended read for those interested in period pieces and also views of another culture (fiction or not, interesting).
