Can't recommend this book highly enough. Wish it'd been around when I was raising my three littles. Back then, we just did whatever the doctor said. No real questions. Totally blind trust. Dr. Spock was the well-known authority. Yikes!!
Dr. Mendelsohn describes what's really going on 'behind the scences' in pediatric (and all!) medicine. Maybe today, parents ask the big questions. I hope so!
A big one for me was his explanation of tubes in ears of kids who get ear infections. When my youngest daughter was a toddler, she got earaches all the time. The doc finally said if she got one more, he'd put those tubes in her ears. Never occurred to me to ask anything about it. LUCKILY, she never got another earache.
Reading this book let me know about so many things I wish I'd understood back then. Excellent info for parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles.
I know a woman who says that Dr. M. was her pediatrician when she was growing up. She just loved him. Had no idea he was famous till she was an adult. How lucky for her and her family!
