Duffin places temperament in its rightful place as a part of the larger musical tuning issue of intonation. Thus he is able to avoid falling into the trap of regarding Equal Temperament as a culmination of centuries of "development." Hopefully his book will contribute to a growing trend for intonational innovation on keyboards, as well as in the playing and tuning of other instruments.
