Kindness and Honor
A gal is set upon running away from home. Her brother is cruel and she does not understand the full depths of his plot, but she fears him due to the past and instinctively. On her last night before departure she frees a neighboring baron from death by freezing (she thinks she is freeing him) in the courtyard of the keep where she lives. She bestows an act of kindness that touches him (and it is not cutting him free). He is there for an act of revenge that honor dictates. He is safe the whole time, but never tells her as he is befuddled by her act of kindness. He is also there to kidnap her - unbeknownst to her. She goes with him, but because she feels it will get her closer to her goal of fleeing and also because she feels safe with him. She is clumsy (although does not know it) and a storyteller and contradictory in much she says through the book. She is also an enigma. No one can believe such kindness can exist within her family due to her cruel and underhanded brother. On their travels back to his keep, she performs another huge act of kindness and honor. She also wins many hearts with her ability. She is confused by this group as she has been taught from little on she is of no value at all. That family matters little - thus she cannot understand the brothers fighting for their sisters honor and because they love her. Back at the keep, she performs more acts of kindness and understanding (and clumsiness) that have all confused about her life, and liking her against their will. There are small issues that arise, but nothing major. The real danger besets them all when her brother sends for her with contracts from the king and also letters that draw out the warrior into more warring conflict under the king's seal. Her brother is in close ties with the king (personally and professionally). Both men now want her for themselves and the conflict grows until they can come before the king for final resolution. Everyone is certain that her story will make the king side with her brother and she cannot tell a lie. However, nor can she tell a straight story. She has learned from little on that honesty in all matters counts, but she is a master manipulator of words and can tell a story without saying much at all. Cute story and I will read others from this auther with gusto.

Honor's splendour is one of Julie Garwoods best book ever. The chemistry between Duncan and Madelyne is beyond words. There is humor throughout the book with Duncan's family and Madelyne. It makes you want to laugh out loud at certain parts of the book. I would recomend this book to everyone.
