His Prince Albert coat was buttoned closely about a figure whose elegance of proportion inclined slightly to embonpoint. Just behind his carriage stood an unpretentious open surrey with one staid family horse held by a driver whose only mark of livery was his beaver hat. These two alone were now left of a long line of equipages which had awaited the close of service. A stout gentleman with a ruddy face and heavy white mustache, paused as he came down the path from the church door to return the deferential greeting of the man by the carriage.
