Triumphant and joyous is the sound of Kieth Lockhart and his orchestra when listening to this very festive collection of shimmering holiday tunes. The music itself can really attract even the mild grinch-like listener and make one feel warm and welcome, such as walking in the heart of a crystaline wintry landscape. It is here that you will find intricately woven arrangements worthy of several playbacks near the home's cozy fireplace. Strike the matches and light the candles, prepare the marshmallows for a slow roast while enjoying the charming "Tomorrow Is My Dancing Day," a feast of Wassail tunes spanning five centuries. Be prepared to receive many blessings with the vibrant "Fantasia on Christmas Carols" arrangement, permeating the work of English composer Ralph Vaughn Williams, dating from 1912. "The Shepard's Chorus" is an uplifting masterpiece valiant in spirit, displaying the touch and grace of Hector Berlioz, who composed this medley just to pass the time at a dull party. The music solely reminded Berlioz of a "primitive, pastoral mysticism." Perhaps the most commercially appealing track of this collection is the heartwarming yet frigid aura of Vince Guaraldi's "Christmas Time Is Here," here sung by the Performing Artists at Lincoln School. A legendary jazz artist in his own right, Sammy Nestico puts together a wonderful arrangement, as Lockhart and the Pops play a swinging rendition of "Good Wenceslas." Such a youthful and exuberant chorus at heart prances along, merrily singing the candid "Sleigh Ride." Again, just to reiterate, these tunes are meant for all Christmas lovers, and should be listened to in light of the season, either actively or casually, at a dance party or sitting by the fire. ~ Shawn M.
