Excerpt from History of the County of Fife, Vol. 3: From the Earliest Period to the Present Time I. The parish of St Andrews, occupies the central portion of the east coast of the county, lying southeast of the estuary of the Eden, and between it and the parish of Kingsbarns. It is about 8% miles in length, from its souti - east to its north-west extremity. The south-eastern part of the parish is only 2 miles in breadth from east to west; but towards the north-west, its breadth is increased to 4 miles. It is said altogether to contain an area of about 17 or 18 square miles. On the south it is bounded by the parishes of Ceres, Cameron, Denino, St Leonards, and Kingsbarns; on the east by the bay of St Andrews - a portion ofthe German ocean; on the north by the estuary of the Eden, which divides it from the parish of Leuchars; and on the West by the parishes of Leuchars and Kemback. The parish contains 21 miles 7 36 yards of turnpike roads, and six miles 472 yards of statute labour roads. Besides the city of St Andrews and its suburbs, there are three villages in the parish, Boarhills near the south-eastern boundary, Strathkinnes about 2 miles north-west of the city, and Kin caple north of S-trathkinnes, and near the Eden. Of these Strathkinnes is the largest, containing a population of about 500. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at ...
