Both the regres sive and progressive changes in the region of the foreign body are in general less intense and develop more gradually than after injury to the corter by the other methods named. The processes which succeed each other from the moment of attack until the necrotic tissue has been removed, a cicatrix formed, and the biological equilibrium thus reestablished may conveniently be considered in three groups corresponding to three more or less well defined time intervals, as follows.
