Original Jacobite Poetry
Hard to find, but well worth the search, Highland Songs of the Forty-Five offers original Jacobite poetry, in the original Gaelic with good English translations. No post-rebellion sentimentalism here; this is not James Hogg or Caroline Oliphant, these are songs from contemporary Gelic poets longing for the return of the Golden Age of the clan system, and an end of Hanoverian overseers.
Here is the true feeling of the Gael - a disdain for Presbyterianism, whiggery, and 'an coatta dearg' the Hanoverian soldiery set to patrol the Highlands.
