I have been reading Tarot for 40 years, taught Tarot for 5 years and read plenty on the subject...this book is very odd. I bought it because it was one of the first Tarot books I came across that included some ideas for use in teaching Tarot. The rest of the book is useless.
The book teaches a "holistic method" of card reading. What this boils down to is thr "reader" laying out the cards and asking the person who wants the reading to describe what they see in the cards. The Tarot reader, in this method, does not read the cards at all! I sure know that personally, I would not pay a reader for the opportunity to do my own interpretation of the cards!
The holistic approach, in and of itself, would work great for doing your own readings (reading the cards for yourself). It would be very frustrating for someone who just wants some clarity in a situation to have to try and figure out what the cards are saying. They come to a reader, in general, because they can't interpret them on their own. With this method, the "reader" might as well just say, "Go buy a deck and a couple of books and do it yourself."
Would you go to a lawyer who told you to look at the situation and figure it out yourself?? I find this approach ridiculous, and would never use it in a reading situation. As a classroom method, it certainly has its merits, however. In a group setting, students can look at the cards, bounce around ideas and discuss observations.
The one redeeming factor of this book is the section that describes different "types" of people a reader may come across. The descriptions are hilarious (and true!) but the book is not worth buying.
