This thoroughly updated volume clearly presents a new look at the conclusions which are based both on a detailed study of an extensive literature and on consultations with experts in various fields. The program of child health surveillance proposed in the First Edition aims to detect developmental problems and defects in the most efficient way while at the same time placing increased emphasis on the role of such activities as accident prevention, health education and developmental guidance. The Second Edition summarizes the findings of a further joint working party, chaired by Dr. Colin Waine, created to examine the suggestions reported in the First Edition. Recommendations for the provision and monitoring of screeing at the district level, and on the role of doctors and health visitors are covered. Each chapter has been updated with summaries of new research findings, and there is further information on the use of parent-held records. Throughout this concise, exploratory work, the areas of uncertainty are highlighted and suggestions for further research are offered.
