We were both teaching graduate courses in health communication at the time and realized we didn't have a comprehensive resource for our students that addressed what we were witnessing every day-ever-changing information as the virus evolved and vaccines became available (though vaccines were not always accessible or equitable), shifting technology use, increasing misinformation and disinformation online, and an erosion of trust in public health authorities. At the same time, we acknowledged our students were increasingly interested in interdisciplinary perspectives and contemporary health topics-such as antiracism and social justice, mental health, and climate change-that have not traditionally been included in health communication textbooks. This textbook is designed to address these gaps and serve as a practical resource to train the next generation of health communication practitioners with the tools they need to excel in the public health communication workforce"--
