I am biased by my early listening experiences, but I have yet to hear a more transparent and lovingly played Haydn 92, despite at least 14 other versions of this fine symphony on my shelf. If it is true that Szell said something along the lines of "in Cleveland we rehearse the inspiration" then they got it right in this performance.
The Schubert is also wonderfully performed, but there is greater competition in this symphony. However, if you haven't heard this (or the same performer's remake for EMI of some years later) then don't hesitate for a minute - this "Great" C major symphony is a performance of great stature.
The sound is dated, but if you take the time to hear through the hiss, here is a wonderfully dedicated group of musicians playing their hearts out in two excellent symhonies.
