Minor shelf wear, light dust staining.
Really struggling to get through this book. I read lots of biographies. I expect the author to tell the facts of the person's life (good, bad and ugly). Ms. Watts seems way too focused on the social and racial inequities of the times of Ms. McDaniel's life. We all know that early 20th century was not a time that best illustrated racial/cultural equality. Ms. McDaniel was clearly a very gifted individual w/ the self-confidence and fortitude to succeed at any endeavor she pursued. That should be the focus, not the repeated focus on societal roadblocks.
We all have roadblocks in life. The successful people like Ms. McDaniel are the ones who figure out how to take adversity and use it as a tool for success. This bio would have done well to focus more on that and less on the SJW narrative.
