Emmons', nascent dilemma - the contrast between his poetic/spiritual insights and the banality, as he sees it, of his worldly environment. At bottom, the author is supported by his faith that underlying this frustration with the as-it-is nature of his surroundings lies a foundational peace, a meaningful substrate, an illimitable solace to which he adheres.
