Abrahamsen has evinced a fascination with snow in other works, but it is perhaps reduced to its essence here. The paired canons of his title, some of them separated or punctuated by short movements labeled Intermezzo, are not canons in the strict sense but pairs of versions of the same small-ensemble music, resulting in constant shifts in the listener's perspective.
