I have read several of Marianne Fredericksson's books, but I think I enjoyed this one most of all. Since I am living in Sweden, I found it interesting from an historical perspective, but the detailed, clearly written account of the lives of a grandmother, a mother and her daughter, moving back and forth through the generations, was a moving, thought-provoking read, of interest to anyone interested in the changing roles of women in society.

This Book Is Healing Fiction
Between her lines of shimmering prose, Fredrikson gives the reader a glimpse of an almost eerie vista of Scandinavian space and time as well as depth perceptions on being a woman. This writer shows us what we are afraid of and what brings us comfort. In the reading of it, this book produces an alchemical process that results in an increase to one's arsenal of coping skills. Here is archetypal image illuminated in northern light.
