Common reversal errors often happen due to the student forming two letters ( such as b and d ) in the exact same way. The only difference being the right or left orientation. In incorrectly writing b and d, students begin at the top of the letter, go down to the bottom line and then circle back up to the right or left, depending on which letter they are trying to remember. As each new letter is learned, it builds on the techniques used to create the previous letters. In this series, we teach specific hand movements to create the letters. The student builds an understanding of letter differences by relating these letter forms to each other through visual and motor memory. This helps the student to identify reversals and self-correct. This formation series helps to create an association in the student's visual memory as well as their motor memory. Verbal cues can also be given as the student is writing; this brings in an auditory stimulus that helps the student remember the correct writing formation.
