I sent this (edition 1989) to a friend and her 6 year old, and the little girl LOVED it. It presents colors and an approach to colors that really stretch a child's mind. I myself prefer the 1961 edition, but I may be biased since it's the edition I was given as a child. I find the colors in the drawings even more unusual for children. But apparently no matter which edition, it's a gift of real value to a child's inner expansion.
