This book is an essential VADE MECUM for anyone wanting to familiarise themselves with the life and work of the artist Gwen John. Not only is the vast majority of her works beautifully and accurately reproduced in its pages, but the accompanying text is highly informative with quotations from letters, personal notes and relevant books. Cecily Langdale is an authority on the works of this artist, having composed catalogues for exhibitions and written books on John both alone and in tandem with other authors. I am extremely glad to have found a copy of this book on Alibris website as it is fairly rare and quite difficult to come by. I highly recommend it to anyone wishing to make headway in learning about Gwen John. Possessing it gives access to so many of her paintings and drawings, many of which are not easily accessible in Galleries and Exhibitions.
