One pattern is particularly rich in colouring, having narrow bands of blue, white, brown pencilled with a black margin, grey, red, and ochre; while another represents a floral design painted with a free brush. Some specimens are interesting, as showing the process of repair, or second colouring, by the application of a fresh coat of plaster. MISCELLANEOUS.--Masses of mortar and concrete, some evidently cast in round and triangular shapes, for corners of the building. Quantities of loose tesserae, generally plain, and about an inch square. Several were small, black and white, and beautifully polished, showing that in all probability fine mosaic floors once existed. Clinker material. A ring of pottery 2 inches in diameter. A round disc of black pottery, with well worn hole in centre, evidently used for games. Stone, hammer-shaped. Tiles with impressions of fingers and the feet of various animals. Oolite slabs, several worked. Part of strainer. Tiles with diamond pattern probably for cutting into tesserae. Part of cornice. COINS.--Upwards of three hundred coins have been found, the dates ranging from 35 B.C. to 423 A.D. The majority are in an excellent state of preservation, while a few are hardly decipherable. They were found wherever excavations took place, but principally on the mound where the villa stood, and at all depths from one foot to fully four feet. Barbarous British imitations of Roman coins were found. The following complete list of the various types has been kindly compiled by Mr. E. H. Tugwell, F.S.M.C., M.P.S., &c, to whom we are greatly indebted for deciphering and classifying them, and also for valuable assistance during the course of the excavations: --LIST OF COINS Found In Greenwich..
