I first became aware of the Parker novels when Mel Gibson filmed Payback(based on The Hunter, first novel in the series). I started picking them up wherever I could find them. Some have been reprinted and are easy to find. But if you like hardnosed noir fiction, Parker is your man. Quite simply, he is a thief. He makes his living stealing, working with different crews, setting up intricate plans to rob, hide, and get away with the loot. This time, The Green Eagle Score, the crew is stealing an Air Force payroll straight off a base. As happens, things don't always go as planned and Parker is double crossed, left holding the bag. He's not nice when he's been crossed. He's a bit more violent than the toned down Mel Gibson film. The Parker novels are fun and a quick read, well worth the time for one who likes this type of fiction. Richard Stark is the name on the cover, but it's an open secret that he's really Donald Westlake.
