When I finally found the first book in this series, I was thrilled from the first page. This author was recommended by the booksellers at my local airport book store when I told them I wished that Conan Doyle was still writing for all of us. I was impressed with, but had now read all of the Mary Russell series, also based upon the Holmes character, but I was still looking for more. Nelson Douglas weaves around the timeless characters already created by Conan Doyle with the creation of another supporting cast and giving us the back story of the affair in Bohemia. I adored the delightful sidekick, Penelope and laughed out loud at the antics and daring of Irene. The story line, the anticipation of Holmes' arrival at any minute and the interplay between the two stories will leave anyone who likes a good mystery, good character development, and a lively travelogue quite enchanted. Warning you are very likely to be just as preoccupied with the enigmatic Ms. Adler as Mr. Holmes shows himself to be.
