Curwood (1878-1927) was an American action-adventure novelist and conservationalist. An avid hunter in his youth, he later became an advocate of environmentalism and his attitude to wildlife is best expressed in a quote from his novel The Grizzly King - "the greatest thrill is not to kill but to let live". In this work first published in 1921 he reflects on how he came to perceive God's presence in Nature.

It is easy to understand how James Oliver Curwood was able to write the wonderful novels that he did. This account gives you an idea of what sort of man that he was and how deeply he loved the forrest and it's animals and birds. I own most of his books and do wish I had owned "God's Country: The Trail to Happiness" before I read all the others.
Needless to say he is my favorite author.
