Amen to the previous person's review!!!
This book is for those who truly want to live "the Crucified Life" which means a death to self, the world and, all of it's glittering/scintillating attractions. As the hymn goes: "My sinful self, my only shame, my glory....all the Cross (e.g., "Beneath the Cross of Jesus"). It requires a death to self daily. As Amma (e.g., Amy) said: "Die daily." To all of those readers that TRULY know Him: BUY THIS BOOK! Her books are especially meaningful to me because, I too, have suffered for about thirty years (e.g., stages of infirmity off and on). As you know, Amma suffered on "a sick bed" for at least twenty years after a terrible fall. Yes, we can all be missionaries where we are at which means the following: Speaking about Jesus to those in a dark world and/or giving with your pocketbook to those who are already serving Him! It's a command! As Jim Elliot (e.g., reader of Miss Carmichael's books and, missionary martyr) once said: "Why do we need a call when we have a command?" Finally, the cultimating and joyous reward for we as Believers is that one day we will see Him in His glorious, adorable Person!

Good reads!
Not a book for those who are looking to live a selfish or shallow life. This is for those who are seeking to deepen their relationship with God and reach out to people around the world or in their own neighborhood. Amy Carmichael gives the reader thoughts to chew on and challenging ways to live a meaningful life. It may seem by the title that it was written just to Missionaries - but we all can be Missionaries right where we live!
