It wasn't supposed to happen...but it did! It's one thing to be a robber. It's one thing to be a drug addict. It's one thing to be a racist. It's also one thing to be a ranking gang member. It's a totally different thing to be all of these with a 99-year life sentence for murder. No hope of change and no hope to see the light of day outside of prison walls. That's what most people would think, but that is not what Maw Maw said about her grandson, the author of this riveting memoir, right before he was sentenced to life behind bars. Maw Maw said, "God has great things designed for his life and he hasn't achieved them yet; he will change and will achieve that goal because 'God don't lie.'" Maw Maw had her words to say but Richard was in no way living up to those words and the world on the inside and outside of prison judged him to be a worthless convict unfit to be anything of worth in society. Richard wasn't supposed to carry the label of ex-robbing, drug addicted, ranking racist gang member. Even, he wasn't supposed to be released from prison. Now both are true and he is experiencing and promoting a freedom that is greater than freedom from the prison walls of the Texas correctional system. Why? "God don't lie." The same applies to you. What God has said about you ain't no lie. You, too, can experience what many (maybe including yourself) believe to be unlikely redemption, change, and freedom, and this memoir is designed to help you.
