I first came across a fragment of this book in an anthology (Protest- the beat generation and the angry young men) in about 1966 when a peniless student. The section from Go so impressed me that I learned part of it by heart. 40 years later I had lost the book and everything about it except a misremembered title and some quotes from Go. The wonders of searching on the internet led me back to it. I still find that Clellon's writing makes the hairs stand up on my neck (what few are left). By now I can actually afford an original copy, so have ordered one. Worth it? Definitely.

I can't believe I am only now reading this ......
Being a long time fan of "The Beat Generation" I can't believe I have never gotten around to reading this book. It is excellent and gives still another perspective on the lives of not just characters but people I've followed for most of my life.
