It's been a year since toured colleges with my daughter, and since I had enjoyed two recent books by Professor (no longer James) Boylan, I thought I would give this one a try. It is the story of four kids and their assorted parents and step-parents who tour most of the best-known colleges in New England, finding out a bit about themselves as well as the schools. The author does a good job of differentiating the major New England colleges, several of which I've toured (I work at one, and the author teaches at another). After a while, the misadventures of the characters overwhelm the tours of the colleges, but in the end, the kids all get what they deserve, if not what they think they deserve, as do the adults, who don't act much more mature than the teenagers. It was a fun, escapist read for a parent of a kid who is making her college decision next week.
