One of Dave Frishberg's finest albums (and a set that gained him a great deal of recognition), Getting Some Fun Out of Life can be easily split into two. Frishberg performs six enjoyable unaccompanied piano solos (including "In a Mist," "King Porter Stomp" and the title cut) and sings six other numbers with a quintet also including trumpeter Bob Findley, altoist Marshall Royal, bassist Larry Gales and drummer Steve Schaeffer.
