Seller's Description:
Very Good in Good+ jacket. Book. 8vo-over 7¾-9¾" tall. A SCARCE copy of this firsthand account of the Wehrmacht's Secret Service during WWII. Stated second impression. This is a relatively clean copy with only some underlining throughout the first portions of the text and an inscription on the upper right corner of the front free endpaper. No bookplates, no remainder marks, and not an ex-library copy. Spine is tight and crisp, and the pages are only slightly browned. Boards are flat and true, and the corners are square. Dust jacket is not clipped but shows substantial wear, especially to the upper edge. This wear includes scuffing to the back cover, microtears to the lower edge, and some "tattering" of the upper edge that extends for about 1/2" into the cover. There is also a 1" tear on the upper edge of the back cover. That being said, the cover remains intact and desirable. This collectible, very good/good +, first edition/second printing copy is protected with an archival mylar dust jacket cover. Satisfaction guaranteed!

Seller's Description:
Good in Good jacket. vii, [1], 209, [3] pages. Frontis illustration. Illustrations. Dust jacket has wear, soiling, and minor edge tears and chips. Sticker residue inside back cover. Signature on half title believed to be that of the author. The author was a senior member of the Abwehr, German's Military Intelligence Service, and one of Admiral Canaris' trusted collaborators. During the war he was chief of German espionage in Turkey and the Near East. The author resumed practicing law after the war and became a member of the German Federal Parliament. Paul Leverkuehn, July 31, 1893-March 1, 1960) was a German lawyer and a member of the German political party CDU (Christian Democratic Union). Derived from a Kirkus review: Packed with information about the Abwehr, Germany's Military Intelligence Service under Admiral Canaris. Only in retrospect does one realize how much meat is here. Leverhuehn handled, personally, espionage and counter-espionage in the Near East and Turkey. He reveals some inside bits about the Mufti's escape, about the intrigue with Iraqui, the operations in South Africa, the Brandenburg Commandos behind Russian lines, the use of disaffected Poles and Ukrainians. He writes of preparations for invasion of the Low Countries and Norway, the difficulties in divided France, of the use of seafaring experience to land agents destined to organized sabotage and use underground contracts. Canaris is given full credit for work with Spain and the Balkans and behind Russian lines. Some news value in a brief account of activities in India, where Bose played into German hands.
