George Cruikshank. Very Good Indeed. A profusely illustrated work, providing an insight into the workings of popular Victorian artist, George Cruikshank. The first edition of this omnibus, created by Cruikshank as an outlet for his creative frustration. There are twenty-two steel engravings and seventy-eight woodcuts, many of which are lovely examples of his caricatures that earned him fame early on in his career as an artist. In addition to the caricatures, there are many examples of the more classic illustrations he created for the likes of Charles Dickens. Gift inscription to the recto of frontispiece, 'William Ryman in Affectionate Remembrance of Lilian Redwick Dec 14th 1913. ' Collated, complete. Edited by Samuel Laman Blanchard. Laman Blanchard was a British author and journalist who edited many magazines. This work has a collection of various writings by individuals such as Captain Marryat, Laman Blanchard himself, A Bird and Thackeray. Albert M Cohn notes that this work was originally published in nine monthly parts from May 1841 to January 1842. A charming and humorous example of George Cruikshank's works. In a half calf binding with paper covered boards. Externally, generally smart with light rubbing to the spine and extremities. New spine label has been adhered. Gift inscription to the recto of frontispiece. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright with scattered spotting, mostly to the plates. Very Good Indeed.
