A handsomely illustrated account, now in paperback for the first time. Regional/Nature A handsomely illustrated account, now in paperback for the first time. Florence Page Jaques and her husband, Francis Lee Jaques, who illustrates this classic with beautiful black-and-white nature drawings, experience an unusually thrilling winter vacation following the waterfowl migration. Beginning with a duck-hunting trip in Minnesota, Florence writes a lively and detailed account of their trip down the Mississippi flyway, through the White River bottom swamps in Arkansas, and around the Rainey Wildlife Sanctuary in the marshlands of Louisiana. "Mrs. Jaques' text, like her observation, is artless and fresh. She observes in an instant, never coolly, and with like spontaneity sets both her observation and her reaction to it." Saturday Review "It is a hearty, outdoors book, full of wind and sky color, full of feeling for things and places." The Geese Fly High was my second copy of this book. The first was a reprint done in the 1980's a good reprint but not a great reprint of the black ink drawings by the Author's husband, Francis Lee Jaques. After reviewing with a magnifying glass I believe the original drawings were just 2% to 3% more sharp. Good drawings started as great dr... awings and I am thrilled to get the orginals.
I thank internet book sales organizations like Alibris every day.
