Taylor Brook's El jardin de senderos que se bifurcan takes its title (the album title is an English translation) from a short story by Jorge Luis Borges on the theme of alternate realities. Brook's thesis is that music may embody alternate stylistic and historical realities, and the six movements of his quartet, slow and primal, embody forms of ensemble rather than melodic-harmonic configurations.
