Her book is as applicable to the small garden as to the grand estate and, with the author's help, the reader is shown that correct proportions, balance and colours can be learned first on a larger scale if the reader is to become proficient in planting at a more modest level.

Seller's Description:
Not Stated. Very Good Indeed in Good Only jacket. One of the best known guides to garden ornament by the notable garden designer Gertrude Jekyll and architectural historian Christopher Hussey. The second edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Illustrated with a frontispiece and 630 illustrations. Collated, complete. An impressive guide to the relationship between architecture and gardening, by two noteworthy experts on each subject: the horticulturalist and garden designer Gertrude Jekyll (1843-1932) and the architectural historian Christopher Hussey (1899-1970). Comprised of twenty one sections, this volume provides sections on gates, paving stones, steps, urns, orangeries, canals, lakes, bridges, sundials, and seats. This second edition is essentially a rewrite of the first, and offers a new section on overgrowth. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally smart, with just a little marginal discolouration to the extremities. Spine is slightly cocked. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Dust wrapper is sound though sunned, with chipping to the extremities and folds. Significant loss and a horizontal tear to the spine. Tape repairs to the reverse of the wrap. Very Good Indeed.
