Keep in mind, this is not great literature but it is a smooth read. Protagonists trip from one deadly encounter with Fu Manchu to another. It is very Austin Powers-esque. Keep in mind, these books are one of the sources of that parody. Given China's history from 1913 to the 1970s, it is hard to see what Rohmer and others were so worried about. Fu Manchu would make more sense today. Full of great orientalist touches in the politically incorrect sense of the word which makes it a historical document as well as a novel.
