I spent the first 20 years of my life in New York State. I bought this book as some recreational reading to refamiliarize myself with the area and spark fond memories, as well as serve as a guide for any future visit. New York is a diverse state and more than an great metroplex centered around the Big Apple. The book provides concise and introductory information to tourist sites, urban and rural, as well as some cultural background information and useful maps. I especially like the map of Long Island's East End on the inside back cover, as the Island is loaded with attractions and countless things to do. In reality, a book covering all or most of the tourist attractions in this populous state would probably be at least 1000 pages in length. Frommer's guide provides a good representative sampling of New York's features, restaurants, hotels and attractions, and does a good job of it. Impressive.
