Extraordinary couple
Steve Roberts' family comes from a line of European Jews, his wife Cokie Roberts' family from a long line of Louisiana Catholics. You would think that this religious difference would be the breaking point of an attempted marriage. In the event, it was the least of their challenges. Religiously, they decided to respect both traditions and to incorporate into their family ceremonial rituals from each background. The children have been reared in both faiths, and Steve has become a more observant Jew under Cokie's urging, while she remians a faithful Catholic. But that is only a fraction of the adventure of this marraige. This couple, both working journalists, have been easing their way together into a culture that has begun to value a woman's professional skills and earning power. This book is a joint writing venture, and as such views the marriage from both perspectives. It provides a long, wonderful journey through the history of two interwoven, mature and evolving human lives.
