On offer are early works by Pierre Boulez, a delightful pair of late Debussy pieces, including his very last keyboard work, Les soirs illuminés par l'arbeur du charbon, whose curious title comes from its having been written for a coal dealer, some late Messiaen pieces on his familiar avian themes, and a student work of Ravel. There's nothing among the set that's an essential rediscovery in itself, but taken together, they offer an interesting deep dive into the line of contemporary French music running from Debussy to Boulez, and the performances by van Raat are clean and reflect a good deal of attention to the threads of influence. The Boulez pieces will be especially intriguing to those who value this composer. The Prélude, Toccata, et Scherzo is a world premiere.
