Journals kept on two summer vacations, and on a trip to Europe, and several erratic and scrappy notebooks, show Parkman's methods of examining historic places and of col lecting historical materials. These, together with the Oregon Trail, his own brief narrative of his life, and an irregular correspondence, consti tute the autobiographical records of his life.
