Seller's Description:
Good+ (Wraps and textblock are lightly edgeworn/scuffed/smudged; interior is clean; binding is solid. ) Red illustrated wraps with yellow and white lettering; 288 pp.; richly illustrated in color. "A richly illustrated source book detailing materials and methods of manufacture, Framing the Nineteenth Century is a select catalogue of frame makers and frames from the early 19th century to the early 20th century. Designed as a reference for professional frame makers, restorers and conservators, this book is also a valuable resource for art collectors and anyone interested in the rich and diverse world of 19th-century design and manufacturing. Framing the Nineteenth Century focuses on English, European and Australian frame makers and through detailed illustrations, profiles of frame sections, dimensions and notes on manufacture and materials is both a survey and a pattern book for the period. A cross-reference index to artists provides a quick source of framing preferences of individual artists. Unlike other books on the period, this book examines individual frames and craftsmen and companies that produced them, rather than the artists of the time. Picture frames of the 19th century have long been considered poor imitations of the fine craftsmanship of earlier centuries; Framing the Nineteenth Century reinterprets this misconception and provides a compelling visual and historical analysis in celebration of their unique aesthetic and structural qualities"--Hardcover Jacket.

This book has detail, and a lot of photos of the most beautiful frames used in 19th century. It's mostly from framing shops, who would like to re-create, the time tested frames. I am a fine art painter and wanted to have reference to frames I could consider for my art, and was searching for LONG time, for a book like this. Now I have a reference for frame shops, to just show - this is what I want and be done with it. Among all art books, this is my "only" framing book! Would fully recommend to buy it if you need detailed reference, where they provide "width" of each frame with the profile, and detailed photo of the frame, than where it was first used and who was the framer including detailed description.
