Excerpt from Forty-Fourth Annual Report of the Corporation of the Chamber of Commerce of the State of New-York, for the Year 1901-1902: In Two Parts The Erie Canal. - The Chamber has never ceased to take interest in all plans looking to the improvement of the Erie Canal, and, at the February meeting, a report was presented favoring the recommendation of Governor odell in regard to Canal enlargement. The Committee expressed its conviction that the State of N ew-york is able to expend eighty millions of dollars for the best plan of canal enlarge ment, with smaller comparative sacrifice than was made by the State in constructing the original Erie canal, and that the purposes for which the canal at this day should be maintained and adequately improved are as important to the State as those for which the original construction was made. But since the Governor, after a full examina tion of the entire subject. And a due consideration of the influences working for and against the larger improve ment, had decided to content himself with recommending improvements whose cost should be limited to the Committee suggested that this modified plan of enlargement should be endorsed and approved. The re port and resolution were unanimously adopted. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at ...
