Near Fine in Good jacket. Art Book is in excellent condition with bottom front corner bumped slightly, a little sunning to lower edge are only flaws. Heavy weave black cloth covers with artist's name in gilt. Binding is solid and square, covers otherwise have sharp corners, exterior shows no other blemishes, text/interior is clean and free of marking of any kind. Two page intro, the remainder of the book is composed of large plates of Mr. Ungerer's work, one per page on heavy paper. Unpaginated, about 60 plates with bright red endpapers. Handsome book. Dust jacket is price clipped, though the price is still there, with heavy edge wear, small tears at corners, scuffing, scratching. Nice photo of artist at back flap playing with a small ball on the floor excitedly. "Rube Goldberg in the spirit of the Marquis de Sade." Slipcase box is chipped and worn with heaviest wear present to the edges (top of box starting to fray and chip, bottom of the box in the same condition. No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks. Light foxing present, with the heaviest foxing present to one of the graph paper plates. Plates are free of marks (save for the forementioned foxing). Most of the plates on heavy card stock, a few are on thinner paper with a greenish linear background. Introduction by John Hollander for this series of 61 plates caricaturing the love mechanized by industrial society which is reminiscent of the theme of the dehumanization of human relationships dear to post-war science fiction authors. Rhinoceros Press founded by Tomi Ungerer and Richard Kasac publishes books and posters. Many preparatory works are known, in particular some made from disarticulated Barbie dolls. Jean-Thomas "Tomi" Ungerer (born 28 November 1931) is a French illustrator and a writer in three languages.
